WEEE REGULATIONS
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law. The legislation aims to make producers arrange for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulations mean we must now allow customers to return their waste equipment to us, or to arrange its collection for a reasonable carriage fee.
The amount of WEEE is increasing at around 5% per year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK .* Much of the UK ’s WEEE ends up in landfill where lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health.
* Many electrical items that we throw away can be recycled. Recycling items helps to save our finite natural resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.
Our Toy Store LTD. are obliged under these regulations to offer our customers take-back of their WEEE on a like-for-like basis when you buy from us a new Electrical or Electronic product.
For example if you buy a pool heater from us, we would accept your old pool heater back to prevent it going to landfill.
Under WEEE Regulations, all new goods should have been marked by the manufacturer with the following symbol, showing that they should be disposed of separately from normal household waste.
Local customers who have bought an electronic item from us can return a similar old item to our shop for disposal. Internet customers can have a similar item collected for the same carriage charge as the delivery cost for their new purchase. *Please note* it is essential any object to be collected in this way must be securely packed for its journey via the carrier.
